Po svém odchodu z Deep Purple založil zpěvák David Coverdale v roce 1978 rockovou formaci, která podobně jako Deep Purple vycházela z hard rocku, ale kladla větší důraz na líbivé melodie. V osmdesátých letech Whitesnake natočili několik desek, které se dostaly do britské Top 10, s eponymním albem z roku 1987 se dokázali prosadit i ve Spojených státech.
V roce 2008 se Whitesnake vrátili po deseti letech pauzírování s deskou Good To Be Bad. Jejich desáté studiové album nyní vychází v rozšířené reedici. K dispozici je v remasterované verzi, ve zcela nových mixech a navíc s bonusovým materiálem v podobě raritních dobových a často dosud nevydaných studiových i koncertních nahrávek.
