Finská metalová skupina Nightwish funguje od roku 1996, postupně se jejich styl vytříbil na symfonický metal, když do sestavy přibyla operní zpěvačka Tarja Turunen. Dark Passion Play je šestým albem skupiny, vyšlo v roce 2007. Autorem Tuomasem Holopainenem je považováno za dosud nejtvrdší album, zjemňuje ho zpěvačka Anette Olzon, která nemá operní hlas jako předchozí zpěvačka skupiny Tarja Turunen.
